 Hello Grade 3 families, 

This week we began our literacy centres by identifying prefixes and suffixes and creating words. 

In Mathematics, we have built on our abilities to represent multiplication with equal groups, repeated addition and arrays. We continue to practice our multiplication fluency up to 9x9.

The grade 3 classes are still hopeful we will be able to head out on a community walk on the afternoon of Thursday, February 23rd. We require 1-2 parent volunteers for this walk. If you are available to join us please email me.

 Hello Families, 

This week we spent our time wrapping up our units on Hot and Cold Temperatures in Science. As well, we finished our oil pastel artwork based on the paintings of Emily Carr. 

It was a unique end to our week this week as we said goodbye to our grade 2 friends. We will certainly miss having them in our class but everyone is looking forward to a new beginning starting on Monday!

Going forward, Our Library book exchange day will now be on Wednesdays. We are also hoping to begin our weekly community walks on Thursday afternoons. If you would be interested in volunteering to join us please email me.

 Hello families, 

In class this week we spent some time editing writing to make it more descriptive. Students created their own unique snowmen and then brainstormed descriptive words to paint a picture in the listener's mind. 

In Math, grade 3 student's built on their number sense with numbers to 10, 000. We spent time representing numbers as well as comparing and ordering numbers. 

In Science we have just wrapped up our hearing and sound unit and students have been demonstrating their knowledge of how the ear works in phys. ed. with movement. Students also used Ipads to scan QR codes to learn about how different animals are able to hear.

 Hello families, 

This week in literacy we discussed as a class realistic fiction stories. We identified what makes a story realistic fiction and what we would expect to read in such a story. Students then began to brainstorm their own stories and have started working on an engaging introductions to hook their readers. In writing, we continue to work on ensuring our stories have sentences that end with a period, question mark or an exclamation point.

 Hello families,

This week we had an awesome field trip to the Telus Spark Science centre. Students really enjoyed being able to spend the day with their friends exploring exhibits, as well as our hands on workshop exploring hearing and sound and how sound is measured.

 Hello Families, 

This week in Science we looked at the effect of vibrations on our ear drums. We learned that sound waves are vibrations that reach our ear drums and send messages to our brains that allow us to hear. We then made our own simple model of how this works with cups, plastic wrap and rice. 

We look forward to learning more about hearing and sound during our field trip to Telus Spark this Tuesday, November 22nd.

 Hello families, 

This week we celebrated Halloween! We spent the afternoon talking about the bones in our hands and how they work and then made our own "x-rays." In art, we created a haunted house drawing using the techniques of one point perspective as well as a vanishing point to make our objects appear as if they are far away in the distance.
